School Watch

I've been not using my blog in the entirely correct fashion in order to fulfill requirements for the class. For this I will repent. Not really. Cranberries is my cash crop. Prices are down ten fold from their high, it's a recession. Times for cranberry farmers are not rosy. So please, buy Ocean Spray.

Chair Watch

I just dropped the chair off at a local upholstery shop, so they'll straighten the frame out for me.  It was around what I was prepared to spend for it, so I'm happy. Will update when I get it back, then I'll post some more build pics for my chair!

Chair Watch

Well this is me trying and coming up short. That damned chair. I tried stripping it, I need more tools, I've no idea what I'm doing. I'm probably going to see what a shop that does car interiors will quote me. This chair project is somewhat exasperating to work on, mainly because of the cost involved, lack of knowledge on where to get replacement parts should I ruin something, and I would really be kicking myself if I were to mess something up. I'll still be making the base, I don't want to tear the whole seat down though.  Steel L-channel will replace the seat rails, mounted to a steel plate that is mounted to the base of the chair. I'm going to go through a LOT of angle grinder disks.

Chair Watch

The seat was surprisingly easy to understand. So the leather is glued to the foam, then it is placed onto the steel frame of the chair. The leather wraps around and trim pieces are put over the holes. On the back a nylon cable wraps around the backing and clips to the frames, thereby holding it taut and keeping it from moving. I thought it'd be a series of complex hooks. This is good news, that way I can take it apart much more easily without damage. It's all a series of layers and locking mechanisms. There is a fibreglass backing piece that is held onto it with some plastic locking pins.

So, this chair project of mine.
The base is assembled by me from components I sourced individually, the wheels are from one site, the base from another, the pneumatic cylinder from another. The seat is from a BMW e46 M3. Recently I've discovered it's from a wrecked one, so in the accident the frame was bent a few degrees. So I'm tasked with tearing it down, probably cleaning it, and reassembling it after straightening the frame. The seat rails will be removed, and L-channel steel will be put in its place to move the base inside the seats dimensions and make it smaller. Then it'll be mounted to a 1/8th thick plate of steel that it is mounted to the chairs base mounting plate. That's the plan thus far.

School Watch

My semester's ideals can be combined into one word. Prodigious. I would like to be one who is known to be prodigious in whatever he tries to do. I'd like to learn more software, further my knowledge in application of knowledge in this field of study. I'm here to learn and I'd like to do that.
